Ultimate Guide for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Foot Care

Today, we’ll be covering some tips for better foot care.
Tips for foot care and pain relief
The World Health Organization suggest patients should maintain the foot hygiene and wear appropriate footwear. Here are some tips that we recommend people with diabetes should do:
- Check your feet:
It’s essential to check your feet once or twice a day. Pay close attention to any cuts, blisters, redness, swelling, cracked and peeling skin and calluses. Ask a friend/family to help examine or put a mirror on the floor and examine if it’s too difficult to see.
- Keep feet dry and clean:
Wash (but not soak) your feet with lukewarm water and mild soap daily. Dry your feet and gaps between your toes with a soft towel thoroughly and gently.
- Moisturizing:
Moisturizing your feet is a great way to ease cracking. Be aware not to apply lotion between your toes as it might stimulate fungal growth.
- Trim toenails regularly:
You should trim your nails straight and horizontal then file all the sharp edges.
- Clean and dry socks:
Over tightened socks should be avoided. You should wear moisture-wicking or cotton socks.
- Pick the right shoes
Wear cushioned shoes that fit properly.
Look for shoes with a cushioned insole that will support your feet and provide comfort with materials that are soft, stretchable, and protective.
It would be appropriate to wear closed-toed shoes to protect your feet. Make sure your shoes fit properly and allow your toes to move and wiggle freely. Choose shoes with a wider toe box so that they don’t compress the toes.
Also, it’s better to put on shoes that has adjustable closure so that you can put them on with ease and adjust them as needed when your feet swell.
The Fitville EasyTop Diabetic Shoes is specifically made to accommodate diabetic and swollen feet.
The innovative cushioning sole help alleviates pressure on swollen feet, offering a soft and cloud-like comfort all day long.
The deep & roomy toe box provides enough space for your toes and feet to move without rubbing the instep.
We added an adjustable Velcro straps to the upper, making it easier for users with swollen feet to put on and off.
